Throwback Thursday - Crissy and Velvet

I loved dolls when I was little and I had a lot of them. When Nina and I were at the Long Beach Antique Market that I wrote about last week, we came across this doll, this week's Throwback Thursday feature:

Crissy. She was produced in 1969 by Ideal.

You would twist this knob in her back and her pony tail would grow and grow.

They came out with her cousin Velvet a year later. She had a violet dress and Blond hair. I was a lucky girl and had both of them.

What I remembered most was the cool case I had to carry both of them. They each fit into one side of the case.

My favorite outfit for Crissy was a cape... It has bright pink fur on the bottom of the cape and these pink balls at the end of the ties at the neck.

I sketched these drawings and then Googled some images:

I guess my memory is pretty good!

I loved these dolls and this cape especially! I have no idea what happened to them. I am sure if I would have saved them, Nina would have loved to play with them. She was always so good with her toys, on special days, I would take out my Barbie's and let her play with them. I am so glad I did as they will be memories that she will have with her forever.

Throwback Thursday - Petite Princess Furniture

I love to frequent flea markets… or swap meets as they are called in this part of the country. Estate sales are so interesting too. I love things that have been passed down to me or that I have saved or collected over the years. My Mother was a saver and collector of stuff. She used to say “it will be worth something someday!” When we moved to California and I sold a ton of stuff on Ebay, I laughed, thinking I guess she was right. I am happy to say that my Daughter also enjoys collecting, saving and frequenting flea markets.
As part of being more authentic on my blog and letting my readers learn more about who MB really is, I have decided to start a new feature. On Thursdays, I will post about something old. It may be an old photo, some old toys that were mine when I was little, something that I have collected or a great find of some sort.
Awhile back Nina and I went to the Long Beach Antique Market. I came across a pile of this furniture:

This pile was not in very good condition. Some of the pieces looked familiar as I still have my Ideal’s Petite Princess Furniture… and in much better condition. The furniture was made in the 60’s… just like me! I have this china cabinet below... I will pull out all of my pieces someday to share.

I had to take a photo of this bathtub…

The condo that we live in was also built in the 60’s… just like me and take a look at our tub!!!

Lucky thing that I am short, because I do not think it would be very good for a tall human… but it is perfect for MB!

I heArt Fridays!

I realized last week that I completely forgot to post a heart on Friday. But one of my 2013 goals/plans is to relax a little more in the evenings. Last week I went to one my best friend's house for dinner and once we get talking... well you know... I got home way too late. So no heart posted, but I filled my heart up with a much needed dose of a friend time so that is way better.

Now to this week:

The other day I had to complete what I think is one of the hardest parts about my job. Every job has some of those tasks…

I spotted these two beauties on my way...

Seeing these really helped me get through it.

Happy Friday!

CHA - Bella Blvd

This weekend I attended the Craft and Hobby Association Trade show in Anaheim. This year my goal was to meet some of the artists and designers that I follow on Instagram or that I am "friends" with on Facebook. I met quite a few... Ali Edwards, Cathie Fillian, Christine Adolph... so happy to meet and spend some time with her... we live relatively close to each other too. Claudine Hellmuth... who I have met before but who is just such a sweetheart, Margie Romney-Aslett "justagirl"  and Stephenie Hamen "craftystephanie". I know there are more, but I am coming up blank.

Here is a look at my favorite paper item...from Bella Blvd

Walking Garden Boots...

Way back when I purchased my boots that I painted here....
I purchased this pink pair for my Daughter.
They are my first finished project of 2013...
sorry they took so long Nina!
She wanted the flowers on the toe of the boot and I loved they way they turned out...

They started out just plain pink....
here is an "in process" shot... I thought I took a few more, but sometimes I get painting and forget to stop and snap a picture.

If you are interested in purchasing a set for yourself or a loved one... email me at mb at drawntocolor dot com. I would love to create more walking gardens!
