Good News!

It is always so nice to see a medical letter start with Good News! Monday the 21st I had my yearly breast MRI and exam by my wonderful Breast Surgeon, Dr. Police. She could not give me the immediate results of the MRI, now that I have a few years of MRI's under my belt it takes a little longer to compare all of the records. They were going to call me over the next day or two. I did not hear from them and I had been too busy to call... of course each night at about exactly 5:05 I would think to call them. I was not too worried as if there is trouble they usually call right away. Today's mail brought the good news "your recent breast imaging examination was normal". Not too much is normal in or about my life right now, but thankfully this is!

I HeArt Fridays!

Last Friday I attended our company picnic. Teams competed in various "sports"  to crown the winner of the "cup" for the year. One of the events was shooting a BB gun. We had  time for practice and then the last 5 shots were our "competing" round. I kept shooting at the same target and I did not even realize until after they gave us our sheets back that I had shot a heart in my paper. Synchronicity?

Secret Garden

This is a new piece that I will be debuting at the Balboa Island Art Walk tomorrow. I was inspired by my class with Flora Bowley last fall to begin and build the background and then it was time to make the final layers look more like me!   Presenting "Secret Garden".

Red Dot Auction...

I became involved with The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity last summer. This past Friday they held their Second Annual “Red Dot” auction. Over 50 artists contributed works of art 12” x 12”. The pieces were signed on the back only. This was Chuck’s 100th birthday year and we were asked to create something inspired by his life and times.
I grew up with Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. I loved Pepe le Peu too. Of course my all time favorite Christmas movie was and still is The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. I could probably recite the complete movie. As you know, I love quotes and when I researched quotes by Chuck Jones I felt this one fit with my style very well:

"The rules are simple.
Take your work, but never yourself, seriously.
Pour in the love and whatever skill you have, and it will come out."

This is the progress of my piece…

laying out all of my papers

Adhering them with gel medium
painting the background
now for the heart
"saving" the little hearts
painting the big heart
removing the little hearts
adding color in the little hearts
The finished piece
The evening of the event I was nervous, hoping that I would at least receive one bid. When I found my piece and looked at the bid sheet, I was pleasantly surprised. There was only one bid. But many times one is enough! I was grateful. I cannot tell you what it means to me when people enjoy my work. I later was told that the person who purchased the piece was based in New Mexico and had seen the work online and they placed their bid through the local gallery.

One wall was covered in black square papers and referred to as the "connect the dot" wall. You lifted a piece of paper and drew something, if someone had drawn in the square next to you, you were to try to connect from their drawing to yours. When you were finished you turned the paper over to reveal the X.

This was my addition.

Here are some of the other pieces of artwork donated for the auction. This is one of my favorites!

Moi with my friend Linda Krall, who introduced me to the Center...

I was happy to be able to share my work, happy that It helped raise money for creativity and I hope it brings the new owner many years of smiles.

I wanted to do something special for my guy this year for his preteen birthday. Avengers opened on his actual birthday so we went to dinner at Kura Sushi…a revolving sushi bar… so fun and then “The Avengers”. On Saturday, we went to The Paintball Park. The park is located on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base.
You can rent all of your gear there. They do a great job of breaking the groups into beginner and advanced and as the day got busier they even had an under 13 group.
Ready for Battle

The Paintball Park

They have 8 different areas and each group goes out for ½ hour of play and then comes back to rest and reload air etc.

I love this...

The first battleground...
Nothing like a little wildlife to make it realistic...there were rattlesnakes too...that had me a tad worried!
Ready, Set, Go...on Hamburger Hill
Then they switch sides... one friend got caught in enemy territory!
The big Sister in battle!
Bullseye... literally
My favorite part... all of the paintballs.
Nina's group in the King's Castle.
Dante is inside the hut in Kong's Island
When you have been hit you raise your hands and head to the sidelines.
Isn't this the coolest place? The Convoy.
The real Marines were playing in this area! Funny I never saw any paint on them!
The Refinery.
Waiting to go back in...
Finishing up at the Refinery.
Splat!

It was a long full day but he had a big smile on his face and truly appreciated every moment. The best words were “Mom, I will remember this day always.” That is what it is all about!

I HeArt Fridays! especially this one....

I heart this guy. He is a challenge and he definitely keeps me on my toes. I am not quite sure if he keeps me young or is aging me faster! He is smart, funny, photogenic and has a good heart. He loves computers and video games and anything electronic.
Today he is 12... a pre-teen! He has had to endure a lot of changes this past year. We have some fun things planned to celebrate over the next few days. I will update you on the flip side.

I love these little hearts in his video game. When he saw me snapping a shot of those, he said..."Mom, that is my life" ... yes Dante we know... video games are you life!

Happy Birthday Handsome.
