Five Years!

Five years ago this morning I heard those dreadful words… “You have Breast Cancer”. My world stopped and I am sure I was walking around with what I call the “deer in the headlights” look for quite awhile. I gathered all of the information I could… I made some hard decisions….I did what the doctors told me to do. I have reached some of the milestones that my doctors said were important… One year of survivorship, two years of survivorship and now five years of survivorship. Is it a guarantee that my cancer will not come back? NO …no one can give those guarantees, but today I am not going to think about that. I am going to celebrate that I have reached this milestone.

On Monday, I went in for my yearly breast MRI. I tried to cheat and make the appointment right after that with my breast surgeon… hoping that she would be able to read the results right then. She did try but not all of the information was available. But she is a woman too and she knows how we worry. She did her physical exam and took a preliminary look at the MRI results and said she was “happy“. Yesterday I received a message from her office, it was “good news, call us back“. The nurse said “Dr. Police is happy we will see you in a year“…well if Dr. Police is happy then mb is happy!

So I will raise my glass… or cookie in my case and take a bite out of life for as long as I can!

Happy Easter!

Every year I ask my kids if they want to color eggs... I was secretly wishing that they would say "no" not this year. But they did NOT say "no". So I bought 18 eggs...a few always crack... my thinking being if a few crack then hopefully I end up with each kid coloring 6! This year I purchased the PAAS tie dye package. I love tie dye... I was born in '61!

I hard-boiled the eggs and as usual a few cracked. We started the coloring and the tie dying. I told them that they could do them that I did not want to color any. Well...that did not last long... it looked like so much fun that I could not resist. Before you know it I had created 4. It was so...much...fun!

As Moms, we do things for our kids, but in doing so we really are doing something for ourselves!

The green one is my son's, I thought it was essential to the composition of the photo!!

Have a Happy Easter!

Creativity: Where Did We Park?

A few years ago my friend and I took our kids to Disneyland. We parked in the Mickey and Friends ramp.. The largest in Orange County as a matter of fact. The kids were excited and the Mom’s were making sure we had everything and of course talking… talking… talking…

We paid attention to what level we had parked on and what row. After a full day at the park everyone was tired. We made it back to the correct level and the correct row, but the exact space in that row that was a little more difficult. As you can imagine the kids are each telling us where we parked and my friend and I are  trying to remember where we parked and wishing perhaps we paid just a little more attention in the beginning! My friend used the unlock button and we found the car!!

The next time my son and I went to Disneyland he had a great idea. “Mom take a picture of where we parked, so we will remember when we come back”… That was a great idea. I love when that happens…kids creative problem solving.

So now every time we go to that huge ramp, with rows and long rows I may add of cars, I take a picture.

Try it… it really is a great idea!!

Lighten Up!

"Lighten up"...believe me there are few people who tell me that... so I am taking their suggestion and lightening up. Now I am sure they do not really mean the background of my blog, but it is a start!

I have decided to take this blog re-design one step at a time. To lighten up and play around with it.

I have been reading a bunch of books... Simple Abundance, A Whole New Mind, Conscious Living and Outliers... the concepts from all of these great books are marinating and so I will play and try and change and embrace see where it takes me and this little blog o'mine.

Palm Crosses

When I was a little girl, we would come home from Church on Palm Sunday with our fresh palms and weave crosses and cones.  This was a tradition passed down from my Mother's side of the family, Italians originally from Crotone, Italy. Over time, I had forgotten how to make the crosses and kept the old ones each year. A few years ago... thanks to the Internet I decided to look for some instructions.  There are so many pages of instructions out there now....I found this one to be very easy to follow to make the crosses.

Today as I was searching for instructions that were a little easier to follow for the weaving the cones, I came across Italiansrus.com! I love it... I can't wait to spend some time on that site. I already found a recipe for some cookies that my Godmother used to make for us!!

Cupcakes Anyone?

Who does not love cupcakes? I know I love them.

I went to a luncheon meeting last week in Old Towne Orange... one of my favorite places in SoCal. I may have mentioned this before but every time I am there I feel like I am back in the Village of Williamsville. When I was walking to the restaurant I saw a sign that said "Food Network Winner". I had remembered reading about this shop but I guess I just forgot where it was.

After lunch I stopped into The Perfect Circle Cupcakery to buy dessert for that evening.

Four of us... four cupcakes:
Red Velvet

24 Karat

Banana Bomb

Cookies and Cream
I split them each into four so we could have a little taste test:

The two winners from the show... if I have this correct were the 24 Karat and the Banana Bomb. They were hands down our favorites too!

Yum... cupcake love!

Reality Check

I spent awhile today writing a new post... putting down in words some major things that I have been working on and thinking about.

When I returned to the computer after my "Mom" duties I was checking in on the blogs that I follow while on hold on the phone... yes multi-tasking as usual.

I stopped at Mothers with Cancer and read this post....

about my friend Sarah...

Suddenly anything that I had to say today was just not that important...

Please say a prayer for Sarah and her family and friends.

This news just makes me so sad...
