Yesterday while sitting at the computer - I felt that familiar rumbling that I have felt a few times in the past 5 years since we have been in California. Only my daughter and I were home and we looked at each other. Usually by the time you figure out it IS an earthquake it is over. This time is was not. The earth just kept rumbling and shaking. My daughter said "I am scared" I said "get over here" and we got under the desk. This was the longest and strongest that I felt. It was scary. The phones were out for awhile, but other than that everyone was fine. There were over 20 aftershocks but I did not feel any of those.
I am used to Buffalo, NY - usually you get notice of a storm. You can usually get to the store and get bread and milk and then hunker down for the blizzard. Not that a good thunderstorm is not scary, but this earthquake thing is scary because by the time you figure out what is going on it is usually over.
I already have some things in an emergency kit so I guess this will give me incentive to really get it together.
